Volunteer With CDCD

Volunteering and Student Placement Opportunities at

Community Development Council Durham (CDCD)

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community, explore your passion and create a positive change in the world, while meeting people from different walks of life. Volunteers participating in our programs are just as diverse as the clients we serve.

There are three easy steps to become a volunteer:

  1. Fill out an online application form.
  2. Complete volunteer trainings.
  3. Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to explore program areas within CDCD.

Please note the application process typically takes four to six weeks.  Due to the fluctuations in our requirements for volunteers and the suitability of applicants, we cannot guarantee that every applicant will obtain a volunteer placement.

  • Volunteer training takes place three times a year, before each program season (i.e. Fall and Spring, Summer)
  • If a volunteer misses the current training workshop, they will have to wait until the next training session

Volunteer requirements include:

  • Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to apply;
  • A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required for all volunteers

How do I get a Volunteer Vulnerable Sector check?

  • Volunteers can apply for a Vulnerable Sector check through Durham Regional Police Services;
  • Volunteers who do not live in Durham Region need to apply in the region in which they live;
  • Vulnerable Sector checks are at a cost to the volunteer. CDCD will provide a letter once a volunteer has completed training which allows access to a discounted rate for the Vulnerable Sector check.

For placement students, if you are interested in a placement, please contact us.

Thank you for choosing CDCD as the agency to which you would like to contribute your time, energy and expertise!
